The Savanna RX-7 first appeared in March of 1978 with its stylish retractable headlights, and it quickly gained popularity. It makes the best of its lightweight rotary engine, and with its low center of gravity and high maneuverability. In 1979 in garnered great attention among the American motor sports scene through the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) when it debuted in the "24 hours of Daytona" race and won first place in the GTU racing class. It continued to win for seven years in a row.
